A Bordertown Studio is a collaborative artist’s space working with film, photography and books
A Bordertown Studio is an artist’s collective working in film, photography, writing, music, design and book making. We aim to inspire, educate and instigate change and conversation.
Founder Stephen Dupont is an Australian photographer and filmmaker. Born to Danish immigrants, he grew up under tough social conditions in the western suburbs of Sydney. Through his social-worker parents, he witnessed the daily struggles of displaced and marginalized communities. This had a profound impact on his outlook and moved him to turn his gaze on the world of the troubled and the perplexed. Inspired by the photographic works, films and philosophies of Walker Evans, W. Eugene Smith, Robert Frank, Walter Benjamin, Maysles brothers, Werner Herzog and Stanley Kubrick, his work considers war, the climate crisis and the human condition. His images have been celebrated for their artistic integrity and insight into people, culture and places that are rapidly changing or disappearing from our world.
